Hawkes Bay School Cycling Champs Rules
GENERAL RULES
- Roll out checks will take place prior to racing and random gear checks could also take place.
- The award ceremony will be at Pukehamoamoa School at the conclusion of road racing and in Ohiti Road at the conclusion of the Team Time Trial.
- Racing is under NZSCA rules.
- Entries close Monday 27 June 2016. No late entries.
- Entries must be made on the attached entry form.
Schools Cycling Gearing(see above sections for Individual Event Gearing Rules)
Schools' gearing has changed.
Up to this year there were 3 different roll out distances. Now there are 2 only.
All age groups up to and including U17
6.61 metres
U20
6.61 metres for team time trial
7.93 metres for individual events.
Note this is a simplification of gearing up to u17. In particular year 7 & 8s will not have to change gearing for team time trials
ALL COMPETITORS AND EVENTS
•All Schools that compete in events endorsed by NZSCA, must have paid their
registration fee prior to racing in NZSCA events.
•Riders shall be accepted as competitors on the condition that they race at their own
risk and under the rules of NZSCA.
• All team members must be current full time members of the school at the time of the
event.
• Riders shall not have had their twentieth birthday prior to the 31st December in the year
of competition.
• All riders shall wear the schools colours.
• Riders shall race in their correct age group.
• All prize winners that take their place on the rostrum must be in their racing uniform or
regular school uniform and without sunglasses or caps.
• Riders must keep both hands on the handlebars at all times during the race except when
drinking or signaling, and immediately after the race. At least one hand should be on the
bars during warm up and warm down. Holding onto cables is not permitted.
• In the interests of rider's safety, following cars or support vehicles or bikes are not
allowed on any course during racing. Any supporter infringing this rule may incur a
penalty or disqualification for their team. There shall be no coaching or shepherding on
the course by supporters in vehicles or on bikes.
• When a team or a rider has won a trophy, the School that the team or rider attends shall
retain possession of any trophies until the next contest and be responsible for its
safekeeping. In the event that a trophy is lost or damaged, the school concerned shall
replace it.
• The trophies shall be returned to the Secretary in the June of the following year.
• The trophies shall not be won outright and shall remain the property of the NZSCA.
EQUIPMENT
• Where there are gears on the bike that are outside the gear restrictions for that age group,
the gears must be restricted by the limit screws on the front and/or rear derailleur to
prevent the use of any device that may alter the gears during the event. (see note below on
details of how to restrict gears)
• Wheels must have a minimum of 16 spokes and no carbon or composite rims or spokes
or hubs. No disc wheels.
• Fixed wheel shall not be permitted in either Teams Time Trial or Individual Events.
• Standard one piece drop handle bars only are allowed. Triathlete -type bars, aerobars
including clipons, and bull horn bars are not permitted under any circumstances.
• Only helmets that comply with safety regulations must be worn.
• Cycles shall be outfitted as per road code.
• Cycles must comply with current UCI technical specifications
Matters not covered in these rules will be considered by the Technical committee of NZSCA
and any decisions will be guided by Cycling New Zealand Rules and By-laws
SPONSORSHIP and CLOTHING
• The school's uniform must be in the school's colours and the logo or name of the School
must be prominently displayed.
• The Sponsor's name and logo must be contained within a 9 cm (90mm) strip on the leg of
the shorts or skinsuit only.
• The Sponsor must be a sponsor of the Team, not the individuals, and to have genuinely
contributed to the Teams expenses.
• The tops shall contain only the name or logo of the school and NO SPONSORS NAME
shall be displayed..
No alcohol, tobacco or party pill advertising may appear on any clothing worn by school
students while competing in a school sanctioned event.
• No trade tops will be allowed.
• In the event that a rider presents to the start line in incorrect uniform they will not be
allowed to start unless they wear a plain white top. A top turned inside out or school sports top will be accepted.
• The use of leg warmers and arm warmers is weather dependant.
This decision will be made on the day of racing by the chief commissaire and advised at
the Manager's Meeting prior to racing. There shall be no advertising or sponsors names
on these garments.
Terms and Conditions of Entry
I (as an individual or on behalf of my school team) agree to participate in this event on the following basis:
1. I acknowledge that during the event all roads will be open to other traffic.
2. I agree to obey all traffic laws at all times.
3. I agree to wear an approved safety helmet for the duration of the event.
4. I understand that while there will be marshals on the course it is my responsibility to know the event route. I agree to follow the directions of marshals and other race officials on the course.
5. By participating, I accept all risks necessarily flowing from my participation that could result in injury, loss of life or permanent injury. Accordingly, I release all persons or corporations associated directly or indirectly with the conduct of the event from all claims demands and proceedings arising out of my participation and I hereby indemnify them against, all liability (including liability for their negligence and negligence of others) for all injury, loss or damage arising out of or connected with my participation in this event. This release shall extend to and include Ramblers Cycling Club, event sponsors, event marshals and their respective directors, partners, managers, officers, agents, contractors, employees and volunteers including event medical and paramedical personnel. This release and indemnity continues forever and binds my heirs, executors, personal representatives and assigns.
6. I consent to receiving any medical treatment including ambulance transportation that event organizers and or medical personnel think desirable during or after the event, at my own expense.
7. I understand that photographs taken at the event may be used for promotional purposes.
8. I acknowledge that I will receive a race timing transponder for all timed events, which I must return to the organisers at the end of the event. I agree to pay a fee of $50 to cover administration and replacement costs of this timing transponder if it is not returned to the organisers within one week of the event.
